Paul Bolus and Norman Bolus receive Papal Honor

On Sunday, December 7, 2014 Most Reverend A. Elias Zaidan visited Birmingham to

install Paul Bolus and Norman Bolus into The Pontifical Equestrian Order of St.

Gregory the Great.

This is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a lay Catholic.  This Order is bestowed on Catholic men and women in recognition of their personal service to the Holy See and the Church, unusual labors, and the good example they set in their communities and country. Paul and Norman were nominated by Chorbishop Richard D. Saad, pastor of St. Elias Maronite Church and they were chosen by Pope Francis to receive the honor. Paul and Norman are both lifelong members of St. Elias, sons of Tofe and Helen Bolus.  Both have been active in all aspects of parish life, from being altar servers to serving as Chairmen of the Parish Council. A lasting contribution they have made at St. Elias is the establishment of the St. Elias Food and Cultural Festival beginning in 1999 and continuing until the present.  This festival was based on encouraging parishioners to tithe for the church, giving time, talent, and treasure for all of us to work together.  In addition, the Festival has allowed us to open the doors of our church for others to learn about our faith and traditions besides our food. Paul is an attorney practicing with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP.  He has been married to Theresa Joseph Bolus for over 25 years and they have four children: Stephen, Jessica, Matthew and Daniel. Norman is presently the Director and Assistant Professor at the UAB School of Health Professions Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.  He has been married to Lisa McGuirk Bolus for over 23 years. The service and dedication of Paul and Norman is an honor for the entire parish community which congratulates them.
